DESCRIPTION:Join experienced naturalists for a leisurely paddle along the Cosumnes River and its peaceful sloughs. This unique on-the-water experience offers an opportunity to explore one of California’s last free-flowing rivers while learning about the wildlife\, plants\, and history that make this area so special. \n \nParticipants must provide their own watercraft (canoe\, kayak\, or stand-up paddleboard)\, paddle\, and properly fitted personal flotation device (PFD/life jacket). Participants should be comfortable paddling for several hours in outdoor conditions. \nPlease dress appropriately for the weather\, bring plenty of water\, sunscreen\, and any snacks you may need during the paddle. \nMore information.

SUMMARY:National Public Lands Day: Invasive Plant Removal by Canoe in Galt
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate National Public Lands Day by helping restore the Preserve’s waterways! Join Preserve staff for a unique\, hands-on volunteer event where canoes will be used to remove invasive aquatic plants from around the recreation facilities\, including the public dock and nearby waterways. \n \nVolunteers will paddle through these areas to identify and remove invasive plant species that can impact water quality\, crowd out native vegetation\, and reduce habitat for wildlife. This important restoration work helps keep the waterways healthy while also improving access and enjoyment for visitors who use the Preserve’s recreational facilities. \nNo previous paddling or restoration experience is necessary. Preserve staff will provide canoes\, paddles\, life jackets\, and all the tools needed for the project\, along with instructions on paddling safely and removing invasive plants. \nPlease wear clothes and closed-toe shoes that can get wet or muddy\, bring plenty of water\, sun protection\, and be prepared for light to moderate physical activity.
