SUMMARY:Delta Waterway Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:What is the Delta Waterway Cleanup? \n\nYou will be participating in the Delta’s part of California Coastal Cleanup Day – California’s largest annual volunteer event is sponsored by the California Coastal Commission and brings folks together at sites around the state to celebrate and share their appreciation of California’s fabulous coast and waterways. California’s event is likewise part of International Coastal Cleanup Day\, sponsored by the Ocean Conservancy\, which is the largest volunteer event on earth! People from all walks of life gather at the river’s edge to help free our rivers\, coastlines\, and beaches from ugly trash. The date is ALWAYS the third Saturday in September. \nWhy are waterway cleanups important? \nTrash travels down to the ocean via rivers\, creeks\, storm drains\, and sewers. Debris that gets picked up from our waterways is debris that WON’T get swept out to sea where it harms our oceans and wildlife – not to mention Cleanup improves our beaches\, parks and recreation sites. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n 2019 Cleanup Sites\n\n\nDelta Protection Commission staff will serve as site captains for the Cleanup sites below\, one in each Delta county. Use the volunteer registration link to sign up as an individual volunteer or to register your church group\, Scout troop\, or school club as volunteers. \nYolo County – West Sacramento – Bridge District (Near the Barn) – (MAP) \nContra Costa County – Antioch – Antioch City Marina (MAP) \nSan Joaquin County – Buckley Cove Park\, Stockton (MAP) \nSolano County – CA-84\, approximately halfway between Rio Vista Bridge and the real McCoy Ferry (MAP) \nSacramento County – Lower Morrison Creek / Bufferlands – (MAP) \n\nVOLUNTEER REGISTRATION\n \n  \nQuestions? Contact Stacy Hayden at (916) 375-4886 or stacy.hayden@delta.ca.gov
